Games / Activities
This handout has been prepared by Professor Martin Westwell who we have been working with closely as part of the ELL project. It contains a range of activities and games you can play with your child to help build their executive function skills.
Many of the games in this handout (for example reversi, go, go fish, etc) also have versions that you can play online with a simple Google search. Games like Taboo also have card sets that you can find online and print. |
This provides a link to the Harvard Centre for the Developing Child which has organised some activities linked to executive function improvement organised by age. The aim being to provide some activities suited to their approximate level of development at that age.

In building your child's executive function and problem-solving skills how you support them with their work at home can be important. To support them with the work you do not need to know the work yourself, you just need to help them to keep thinking about the question in different ways. The questions provided in the link opposite and also in the printable version below provide some good questions to do that. If using the link opposite the most important information is in the introductory paragraph and the "solving a problem" sections.
