Testing your own Executive Function
If you are interested in looking at your own executive function a bit more closely there are a range of resources and simple tests that you can do online. It is important to realise that the value of these tests is not in tracking your progress but in seeing how they design the tests to stretch your executive function skills, looking at what aspects make them tricky and seeing what that can tell you about how your brain works.
These tests have been obtained from the cognitive fun website, you can sign up for an account if you want to track your progress. There are also additional tests and activities you can do at the Cambridge Brain Sciences Website.

Inhibitory Control Tests
The following tests are ones that look at your inhibitory control. They require you to keep a rule in mind whilst trying to get you to react to a stimulus that is against the initial rule

In this test you need to indicate what direction the arrow in the middle is pointing. There will be several other arrows around that central arrow that may be pointing in the same or a different direction to that central arrow. The task requires that you ignore those other stimuli and focus only on that central arrow.

In this task you are presented with 1 or more 3 x 3 grids and in each grid a starting position is indicated. When the test begins the starting point disappears and each grid will show an arrow that indicates how it wants you to move the block in that grid. You need to mentally keep in mind where the new position is. This process continues with several arrows and at the end of the sequence you are ask to indicate the final position of the block in one of the grids.
